When Tall John's first opened its doors on October 19th, 2022, Chef/Owner Trevor Payne and then-General Manager (now GM/Owner) Jasper Adams had a clear vision for what they wanted to accomplish: classic, delicious, expertly crafted food and drinks served in a friendly, relaxed environment. Inspired by the restaurant's location, a strikingly tall historic building in the heart of Montford, the two set out to create a space where neighbors and visitors alike could enjoy an experience that is at once special and unpretentious.

Tall John’s is ready for summer thanks to a new 36-seat outdoor dining patio and weekend brunch on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am-2pm. Dinner hours have also expanded, with chef/owner Trevor Payne and team serving local favorites Tuesday - Sunday, 4pm-9pm.

Along with his team, local chef Trevor Payne has spent the last nine months remodeling the restaurant space formerly occupied by Chiesa, transforming it into Tall John’s, a neighborhood tavern offering classic European-American food and drinks. Located in the Montford historic district, the soon-to-open restaurant and bar is located in a distinctive circa-1906 building that maintains prominent historic details, including its original windows and floors. As part of his down-to-the-studs renovation, Payne opted to pair these original details with modern updates, including a new open kitchen and spacious bar.

After a decade of searching for the right location to open a restaurant, local chef Trevor Payne has landed in the historic former grocery/church at 152 Montford Avenue. His neighborhood tavern, Tall John’s, will open October 2022. The spacious, airy building, which dates back to 1906, is centrally located in Montford, nestled among the neighborhood's historic residences and old-growth tree canopy.
